Silk is a delicate and luxurious
fabric, very suitable for bedding. It is also one of the few materials that can
be used throughout the year. Silk bedding requires special care when cleaning,
and most manufacturers will instruct customers to dry clean their silk bedding.
However, frequent visits to the dry cleaners will quickly empty your wallet.
This is not entirely necessary, as the silk can be hand washed with water and
soap carefully. To clean silk bedding, use the following steps.
1. If you doubt whether it can be safely cleaned in the machine, please clean the silk bedding by hand. Pour cold water into a clean laundry tub or bathtub. Add a small amount of mild detergent and stir the water by hand to make it foam.
2. Put the silk bedding into the water and rinse gently with your hands. Let it soak for a few minutes, then drain the tub and squeeze as much water as possible from the fabric without wringing out the material. Fill the bathtub with cold water to rinse. Gently rinse the bedding again, then drain the water and squeeze out as much water as possible. If there is still soap in the rinse water, rinse the bedding again.
3. Remove the bedding from the bathtub. You may need help with this step because the wet bedding is heavy. Hang the quilt and sheets in a place where they can be evenly dried on all sides. If you hang quilts and sheets on the clothesline, put them on two or three lines as much as possible to help reduce the weight of the fabric.
Silk bedding is easy to wash by hand. This will save you time and money in the dry cleaners. Use mild detergent to remove dirt. Follow the steps above to complete the cleaning.
